Savior Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa(Ukraine)
The story of one of the mainattractions of Odessa - the Savior Transfiguration Cathedral began in 1795,
when Metropolitan Gabriel was laid the first stone. The architectural
development of this facility, which has become one of the main attractions of
the solar city; it was the main indicator of the level of development not only
of the Odessa, but also the entire region.
In 1837, thanks to the project
D. Franolli cathedral decorated 80-meter high bell tower, which has become an
indispensable reference point for walking in the port of Odessa courts? Bells,
among which a bell is the largest in Ukraine, were made by Greek masters. Each
of them, and what is their uniqueness, it corresponds to a particular note. To
date, the role of computer-executable ringer. See the amazing bell tower from
the sea, you can even long before the city itself seems.
Unfortunately,
due to the prevailing historical events, this major cultural construction could
not avoid the sad fate. In 1936, it was destroyed. Yet the saddest thing is
that, before it was virtually razed to the pebble of the foundation, it was
hypocritical and thoroughly looted.
Longtime residents of Odessa
nurtured the hope of reviving the lost historical and cultural monuments of
Ukraine. And when in 2001, restoration work began; it became clear that the
spiritual symbol of the city will be returned to its former beauty and
grandeur. It is indicative of the fact that all the work carried out
exclusively by donations of city residents, as well as foreigners visiting
Odessa. Today, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral continues to delight as the
citizens of Odessa and guests of the city.
It is worth emphasizing that
the Savior Transfiguration Cathedral was returned not only its former
appearance, but the most important thing - he regained once lost relics:
remains of Vorontsov and the miraculous icon of the Mother of God
