Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond (USA)
Museum of Richmond (Virginia),dedicated to the life and literary works of the world-famous American writerEdgar Allan Poe. Museum of Virginia is one of the largest collections of
letters, manuscripts and artifacts associated with the writer. The collection
even includes a few pairs of socks from Edgar Allan Poe.
By living in the city of
Richmond in the different periods of his life, from youth to adulthood. Given
the fact that the writer had spent much of his life, a little strange that none
of its real houses has not been saved. Because of his infamous habits (alcohol
and gambling) Richmond authorities were not interested in creating a monument
to the writer, and even rejected a proposal by the founders of the Museum of
Edgar Allan Poe on the opening of a public statue rebellious writer.
However, Poe Museum, which was
created in 1922 in a historic building in Richmond, and to this day is a
popular attraction in the city. The founders have collected everything that was
in any way connected with the life of the author, including furniture, letters,
manuscripts, trinkets and clothing, but a few kinds of exhibits. All the things
brought from abroad, were the customs technological expertise.
The extensive collection also
includes even such strange things as a lock of hair of Edgar Allan Poe, and
even a few pairs of socks, which were found in a trunk belonging to the author.
There is even a scale model of the city of Richmond, which in his mind
represented the Po.
Do this to the authorities of
Virginia or not, but in this city, perhaps, houses the largest collection that
introduces visitors to all the details of life of Edgar Allan Poe.
